v/urb - A Call for Submissions

We list: lottery tickets, double doubles, push-up lolli-pops, bras, buggies, babies, old folks, what's on sale, wet laundry, prescription medicines, a rental where “cricket and street hockey are strictly prohibited and violators will be prosecuted”, young loves falling on subsidy for rock and roll, private liberties, speech patterns, government aid, the tenant below you, a familiar curb, corner store, landmark, first park, main drag, gutter balls, water constrained or let be, domesticity, sincerity.
It is a lack of privacy. Daily voyeurism from too close windows, sounds that filters through semi-detached houses and too thin floors. It is green that spikes through the concrete, arresting small corners in gasps. A garden overgrowing with vegetables, crab grass and playing fields. It is an excess of language. Ads, voices, music, the crackle of front porch stirrings, back alley arguments. It is an excuse for language. Words, green, that gather at the bottom of pint glasses, on subways or kitchen tables. It is a balance. It is a wonder we’re not crazy.
